Got Fruit? Get Sneaky

Fruit makes a great snack or dessert, but don’t stop there. Here are some ways to fruit up your meals (and sneak in the recommended 2 to 4 servings a day).


To add moisture, texture (and nutrition) to your burgers, add a bit of fruit to the mix. Blueberries will keep burgers juicy without overwhelming the flavor. You can also try minced cherries or shredded apples or pears to create your own one-of-a-kind burger.

Go for the grill

Slice in-season fruit and cook it in foil or skewer up some fruit kabobs. Try pineapple, watermelon, plums, apricots, peaches or nectarines, and season with cinnamon, ginger, basil or rosemary. Looking for something more savory? Add in chicken or lean steak.

Fruity frosting

Give traditional frosting a new twist. Choose a soft, ripe fruit such as dates, peaches, pears, plums, mango, kiwi, papaya, figs, strawberries or bananas. Process in a blender to create a tasty topping for muffins, bagels, or crackers and spreadable cheese.


Create your own fresh fruit medley and place it at the center of a tortilla. Add a drizzle of raspberry balsamic vinaigrette and wrap it up like a burrito.
